Members of my tribal dance troupe Banat Casablanca refer to the hair clips as "muppet hair," since they resemble something muppets wear on their heads, and alternately "hair muppets," since beads and shells on the clip resemble muppet eyes and a mouth. My designs keep the dancer's comfort in mind. They are lighter weight than hair accessories made by other designers. You can wear these clips for several hours and not get a headache. Also the shell and bead strands are designed to make a less painful impact with your face while you dance. ALLERGY NOTE: Hair accessories may have a few stray cat hairs, since Miss Sasha Kitty can't keep her paws off the string!
I will take special orders to make unique hair accessories. The pieces on this page are made with metal hair clips, cowrie shells, glass or metal beads, a variety of synthetic or natural yarns, and hemp string. No two pieces of a similar style will be identical, so please allow for variations.
PRICES: Generally, matching hair "doodad" sets (24" to 30" long) are $20 to $30 US, depending on the length and amount of shells and beads you choose. Generally, one strand of cowrie shells with beads (12" to 24" long) costs $12 to $20 US, depending on the length and amount of shells and beads you choose. You pay for shipping. "Experimental" cowrie shell tassel with spiral pattern. I'm still learning how to do the macrame pattern to make a pretty spiral. Approx. 24" long, 60 cowrie shells. $40 US.
One set of three short (4", 5" and 6" long) cowrie shell strands costs $18 US. These are macramed by hand using hemp string. NOTE: these items are sold. Photos are for referece. I can "reproduce" them or make strands with different colors and beads per your special order.
