Tribal Belly Dancer Doll

My dear friend Micaela, a sister U2 fanatic known as dreamoutloud, had the luxary of taking a four-month intensive textiles workshop last year. During her studies, she was assigned to make a cloth doll. She was inspired to make a belly dancer doll. Micaela carefully studied photos of tribal style dancers and sewed exquisite costuming details in the fabrics and bead embellishments. The doll's face and belly tattoos are hand painted. Micaela and I decided to name the doll Samia Gamal, after the famous Egyptian belly dancer and movie star. Samia (sah-MEE-ah) means "lofty or noble."

Micaela said she modeled the doll's face on a photo of me. But I see that the doll has Micaela's beautiful green eyes. I think the doll is breathtaking. Micaela is a master artist. She's a wonderful friend. Thank you, dreamer!
